Living between the escarpment and the sea is hard on plumbing, and it shows up in the jobs we’re called to. Salt air is the big one.
It works on copper pipework and brass fittings faster here than it does inland. It also takes years off the life of a hot water system, especially a unit mounted on an exposed exterior wall.
That means hot water failures arrive earlier here than most people expect. A system that would have kept going another few years in western Sydney can start leaking at the relief valve well before its time. The first sign is usually water tracking down the wall underneath it, not a cold shower.
The escarpment is the other half of the story. Rain that falls on the ridge has to reach the sea across a narrow strip of land, and it moves fast. That loads up stormwater lines, pits and downpipe connections right across the coastal suburbs.
So after heavy weather we see far more stormwater work here than sewer work. If water’s pooling against your house after a storm, it’s usually stormwater rather than sewer, and the fix is a different one.
In July we were called out to a Wollongong home where the hot water system was leaking badly. The unit was a 16-year-old 50 litre electric system, and the pressure-limiting valve and duo valve had both failed.
Our plumber went through the options rather than pushing the biggest one, and the customer chose a new 80 litre wall-mounted Thermann. One thing worth being straight about: because we’d upsized the unit, the existing electrical cable no longer reached. We fitted a junction box to extend it rather than leave the job half done.
The new system went in and was working the same visit. The customer left us a 5-star review afterwards.
“Josh from All Needs Plumbing Wollongong was excellent. He was friendly and helpful, explained everything in detail, provided different options for repairs (and didn’t pressure me to go with the most expensive one), showed pictures and videos of the problem to help me understand, and took his time attending to everything carefully. I couldn’t be happier.”

“Josh and Jake went well above expectations sorting out several problems we had but we’re not aware off. They did a good job of cleaning up after the work. Great job fellows. We strongly recommend them.”

Usually the same day for anything urgent, and often within the hour throughout Wollongong and the central suburbs. We’ve got plumbers based around the Illawarra, so you’re not waiting on someone coming down the M1.
Our vans carry the common taps, valves and fittings, so most of your job finishes on the first visit rather than turning into a second appointment. If we do need a part ordered in, we’ll tell you that on the day rather than after.
From Helensburgh to Wollongong to Shellharbour, we’ll take care of your plumbing, whichever end of the Illawarra you’re at.
Albion Park, Corrimal, Dapto, Fairy Meadow, Figtree, Shellharbour, Thirroul and Unanderra. See every area we cover on our areas we serve page.
Yes. We run a dedicated Illawarra team with plumbers based around the region, and a registered Wollongong location. When you call, your job is picked up by someone already working the coast rather than dispatched down the M1. That’s why we can offer you same-day service here instead of booking you in for next week.
Salt air. It corrodes copper pipework, brass fittings and the external parts of a hot water system faster than inland conditions do. A unit on an exposed wall wears fastest, and the first sign is usually a leak at the valve rather than cold water.
Not every leak means a new system, though. We only recommend a replacement when a repair isn’t the right call.
Usually stormwater rather than sewer. Runoff comes off the escarpment fast and hasn’t got far to travel, so it overloads your stormwater lines, pits and downpipe connections. If you’re seeing water sit against the house or pool in the same spot after every storm, that’s the sign. Clearing or upgrading your stormwater line normally fixes it, and we’ll tell you which of the two you need before we start.
Not during standard business hours. Free call-outs apply from 7:00am to 4:00pm, Monday to Friday, and that’s the same wherever you are in the Illawarra. After-hours call-outs may incur a fee, and we’ll tell you what it is before we come out.
Yes. We’re fully licensed and insured, and our licence number is 340574c. Every plumber on the team is qualified, and our gas fitters are separately licensed for gas work. Ask any plumber in NSW for their licence number before they start.
Usually, yes. We’ve got plumbers working across the Illawarra, so we can normally get to you the same day for anything urgent. Call us early and you’ll get an honest answer about what time we can be there, rather than a window we can’t hold. If your job can safely wait for a booked visit, we’ll tell you that as well.
For a burst pipe, turn off your water at the mains, usually near your front boundary or water meter. For a gas smell, don’t touch any switches, get everyone outside, and call us from there. For a blocked toilet or sink, stop running water and keep the area clear.
Whatever you’re dealing with, we’ll talk you through it on the phone while we’re on the way.
Yes, in some circumstances. Under NSW tenancy law a tenant can arrange urgent repairs and be reimbursed up to $1,000 if the landlord or agent can’t be contacted or doesn’t act. Keep the invoice and notify them in writing as soon as you can.
When something goes wrong with your plumbing, there’s no time to waste. A slow drain becomes a blockage, and a weeping valve becomes a ceiling repair.
Rely on expert local plumbers to take care of it. Give us a call on 1300 110 230 or book online, and rest easy knowing every job is backed by our Lifetime Labour Warranty.
